Paying It Forward…Project Aspire, Excelsior Youth Center, Kempe Foundation, Bessie’s Hope

I would like to share a little “paying it forward” with you.  Thankfully, this part of  my world is growing and I thought I would share the organizations I will be serving again in 2015.  Each of these organizations is worthy  in  their purpose, seeking to better the lives of others:   children,   seniors and students.   In 2015, I  will  be making a donation in your honor to one of these organizations for each transaction or referral.  If you are thinking of buying, thinking of selling or know someone who is, please call Victoria Gartelos 303-930-2213.ProjectAspire_Horizontal-300x133 The Project Aspire Scholarship Foundation was Founded by Marney Andes, and I serve on the Board as Vice President.  Project Aspire’s Mission is to “provide encouragement and financial support toward the pursuit of education to those women in Colorado who are seeking to better enhance their lives mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually”. Scholarships  are awarded to women at the University of Denver-Colorado Women’s College. Project Aspire has established the Project Aspire Scholarship Endowment at the University of Denver for the benefit  of students at DU-CWC. Please visit: http://www.myprojectaspire.org

Excelsior  Youth Center “supports youth  and  their  families  through  a  continuum of treatment and  educational  services to  enhance  success  within   their  homes, schools  and  communities”.  For over 41 years Excelsior Youth Center has provided behavioral healthcare and educationally related  mental health services for  adolescent girls, both locally  and  nationwide, who  have  struggled  with  serious social  and  emotional  challenges.   Excelsior believes  that  all  girls  can overcome challenges, develop their skills and resources, and be healthy members of their families and communities.  Over the course of their 41-year history, Excelsior has helped over 4,000 girls accomplish their treatment goals. This year, I  am also serving on the  Committee for Excelsior Youth Center’s 2015 “Triumphant Faces”  Gala.  Please visit:  http://www.excelsioryc.org
KEMPE LOGOThe Kempe Foundation is a “world leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect”.  Every hour, a child somewhere in Colorado is being abused or neglected. Every dollar raised can help ensure they receive the best treatment available and prevent further maltreatment. This donation will allow  a  foster  parent  to  work one-to-one with  a Kempe clinician to learn how to help  their  new  child cope  with complex,  emotional issues. Every   day,   Kempe   brings   together   leading  research   and   treatment  professionals, policy makers and community members to make sure every child has  the  opportunity  to  develop and grow in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. Please visit: http://www.kempe.org

The Mission of Bessie’s Hope is to “enhance the quality of  life  for nursing home and assisted living elders and bring generations together in mutually  rewarding  relationships  by honoring the human spirit and creating  life-enriching  volunteer opportunities  for  youth,  families, individuals, community organizations and businesses”.  The work of Bessie’s Hope transforms the  lives of  the too-often forgotten elders, and misdirected  “at-risk” youth  by  bringing  them together.  This year, Bessie’s Hope  celebrated  the 20th Anniversary of  serving  Seniors  and Youth  at their Annual Gala.  Please visit: http://www.bessieshope.org

Redline Gallery “She Crossed the Line”

This morning I attended “Women Advancing Women” part of a year long series of events for “She Crossed the Line” – Redline Gallery, representing Project Aspire Scholarship Foundation where I serve as Vice President, along with Marney Andes, Founder and President.

Redline Diana Degette     Moderated by Congresswoman Diana DeGette

RedLine Panel

Panelists included:
Judi Wagner, Co-Founder, Electing Women
Tina Walls, President, Denver Chapter of The Links, Inc., community advocate,
and retired corporate executive
Desi McAdam, Managing Director, thoughtbot
Dr. Lynn M. Gangone, Dean, Colorado Women’s College

Moderated by Congresswoman Diana DeGette, Women Advancing Women focused on how women are breaking stereotypes, crossing lines, and becoming industry leaders in their respective fields. As part of RedLine’s She Crossed the Line series, this facilitated discussion began with a keynote address by Congresswoman Degette and closed with a discussion that explored diverse cross-industry perspectives by women leaders in historically male-dominated fields.  A continental breakfast was provided by generous sponsor Gourmet Fine Catering.

Women Advancing Women is part of She Crossed the Line, a year-long series of exhibitions and dialogues focused on trail-blazing women artists and community leaders, presented by RedLine and RBC Wealth Management.
